Remote desktop
A desktop session that stays on when you close the lid.
A remote desktop needs an appropriate image and an appropriate license. Both are choices you make in the configuration flow, and both affect the price.

What this workload actually needs
Conditions that have to be true before it will work, whatever plan you pick.
Requirements
- A Windows Server image, where you want a Windows desktop. Windows images are only offered on some plans and in some regions.
- A Windows Server license appropriate to your use, and any additional access licensing your use requires.
- A firewall rule limiting the remote-desktop port to the addresses you connect from.
Deployment considerations
- Windows availability differs by region. The configuration flow shows the images offered for the plan and region you picked.
- Interactive sessions are latency-sensitive. Choose the region closest to you, not the cheapest one.
- A desktop left running accrues charges whether or not anyone is connected.
What we do not do
- We do not advise on Microsoft licensing entitlements for your organisation.
- Graphics acceleration is not offered on any plan in this catalog.
Software that suits this workload
Compatible, not preinstalled. No one-click template is configured on any plan in this catalog.
System images
- Windows Server
- Ubuntu
- Debian
